Originating from Omotesando, Tokyo, the Japanese bakery and café brand BREAD,ESPRESSO & officially arrives in Taiwan in September 2025. Its first location opens in Ximending, Taipei, becoming part of Oani’s everyday street-level scenery on the ground floor.
Turning the everyday into moments of quiet happiness
Founded in 2009, BREAD,ESPRESSO & is built on the belief of making everyday life something to look forward to. From bread and coffee to brunch dishes and the rhythm of service, every detail is carefully calibrated to feel just right. Never loud or showy, yet always inviting guests to return.
This philosophy naturally resonates with what Oani believes in: a sense of quiet everyday life within the city. Nothing needs to be planned. Simply slowing down is enough to feel genuinely cared for.
Mou Toast|A new encounter every season
A visit would not be complete without the brand’s signature Mou Toast. Made with custom Japanese flour, proprietary baking molds, and precisely timed fermentation, the toast offers a light crust and a soft, moist interior. Its rich yet gentle buttery aroma often becomes the first bite people remember.
In Taipei, Mou Toast is not limited to a single fixed flavor. Instead, it evolves with the seasons. Each season brings new flavor combinations inspired by time and creativity, allowing familiar toast to deliver fresh surprises throughout the year. Mou Toast gift sets are also available, perfect for sharing, taking home, or marking meaningful everyday moments.
Ingredients and time shape the depth of bread
BREAD,ESPRESSO & approaches ingredient selection with restraint and focus. Sweet breads are made with Nisshin Seifun Camellia flour from Japan, preserving both softness and structure. European-style breads use flour from Yokoyama Milling in Hokkaido and are fermented slowly at low temperatures, creating natural sweetness and layered flavors.
Select items incorporate German rye flour and North American whole wheat flour, adding depth and a more memorable texture. These unseen hours of waiting and care reveal themselves in every bite.
A gentle connection with Taiwan’s local landscape
In Taipei, the brand also collaborates with local artisans. Together with Taiwanese beekeeper A-Wen Lao-Die, a custom honey was developed using Longan honey from Gangshan as its base, blended with floral notes from eastern Taiwan. Subtle floral aromas, woody tones, and a clean finish create a quiet yet lasting impression.
This is not simply localization, but a respectful way of engaging with the land, allowing Japanese everyday sensibilities to find a natural place in Taiwan.
Bread, coffee, and just the right kind of company
Beyond toast, the menu features classic Japanese-style brunch dishes and desserts, including mentaiko toast, honey butter red bean toast, and matcha French toast. These are dishes meant to be enjoyed slowly, alongside conversation.
The coffee uses a house blend combining beans from Guatemala, Colombia, and Tanzania, offering depth and balance that pairs seamlessly with the bread. A selection of cold brew specialties adds lightness and variation to everyday moments.
A service experience that does not interrupt
In keeping with Japanese shop culture, the store adopts a concierge-style service, with staff assisting guests in selecting and serving bread. This ensures smooth flow while keeping each loaf in optimal condition. The space reflects the brand’s signature simplicity, where wood, light, and the aroma of baking come together to create a place where one can linger with ease.
At Oani, BREAD,ESPRESSO & is more than a restaurant. It is an extension of a way of living. You may arrive for a cup of coffee or a slice of toast, and leave with a quiet memory woven into your everyday life.
